St. Peter's Fish Rosary Case

St. Peter’s Fish Rosary Case is a special rosary case.  It is symbolic.  It is beautiful.  It has a story, a history with an emotional and biblical connection.  A beautiful, natural, unique leather unlike any other.

Tilapia is known as St. Peter’s fish.  It is fabled to be the fish St. Peter caught from the Sea of Galilee that was fed to the masses of five thousand by Jesus.

Col de Mar uses a beautiful and sustainable Tilapia fish leather in this Rosary Case.  Farm raised for human consumption, after harvesting, the skins are upcycled to produce a beautiful new leather, a Tilapia Fish Leather.  The natural scale pattern has a beautiful texture and geometric pattern.

Tilapia are indigenous to the Sea of Galilee originating in Africa and parts of the Middle East with fossils dating back to ancient times.  Tilapiini, or Tilapia, is a common name for nearly a hundred species of cichlid fish and have been around since 1500 BC.  They have been fished in the Sea of Galilee for thousands of years and have been a source of nutrition and a staple in the Mediterranean diet during the Roman Empire.  It is speculated by scholars to be referenced in the Bible especially with the miracles of Jesus and his disciple, Peter.

This Olive Wood Rosary is handcrafted from the pruned branches of the olive trees growing on the hills of Bethlehem.

Olive wood is a tree native to the Holy Land with many spiritual gifts.  It is mentioned in scripture, when the dove returned to Noah’s Ark with an olive branch in its beak (gen 8:11).  An olive branch is a symbol of peace, fertility and prosperity.  The leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations (Revelations 22:2)

Col de Mar uses various intriguing leathers in its accessory collection. Leather is a durable and flexible material created by the tanning of any animal rawhide, including fish. Our signature leather and one we began working with is our Tilapia fish leather. Throughout the years and with new designs we started working with other intriguing and exotic leathers such as eel, embossed and printed cow leathers and various snake leathers. Responsible Sourcing We source our leathers from USA suppliers that meet the requirements of exotic leathers from species listed in the Convention on the International Trade in endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, CITES, an international agreement between governments with an aim to ensure that international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival. Learn more about our different leathers and materials. Please note that texture and patterns can vary as this is a natural leather.
